Title and Audience: Play your Playbook; High School Gym Class
Objective: 1.3.3 Exhibit advanced offensive, defensive and transition strategies in a variety of physical activities
Materials: Basketball Gym, Basketball, Dry erase board and marker, Gym Clothes, Computer Lab, Camera
Description: There will be teams of 5 people numbered out randomly. Two teams will play at a time, one on offense and one on defense. It will only be one possession at a time, so they will play until the offense scores or the defense steals the ball. After each possession, the offense and defense huddle together and draw a play that they think would be a good strategy for that possession. Before the class begins playing they will research the basic fundamentals of play calling such as, what a pick and roll is or what a zone defense is. Each game will consist of each team getting 5 possessions on offense and 5 possessions on defense. Whoever scores the most points wins. After the game, they will go in the computer lab and review their film and create highlight films or bloopers. The teacher or a student from technology class will film the games.
Scaffolds: They will use google.com to research strategies of basketball. They will brainstorm and work together to create their own plays using the dry erase board. They will review their plays, see how they could make them better, and create a highlight/blooper reel all on Windows Movie Maker.
Technology to Support Authentic Instruction: Computers for watching the film, cameras for filming, and a video editing program to make the highlights/bloopers.
